Review

Spanky's Quest is one of those Game Boy games that never got the attention it deserved. Instead of simply jumping on enemies, Spanky creates magic bubbles that turn into different sports balls, each with its own attack. It sounds a little odd at first, but the gameplay quickly becomes addictive as you learn which ball works best in each situation. The bright visuals, catchy music, and fast-paced action give it a real arcade feel, making it the kind of game that's easy to pick up for a quick session but hard to put down. A handy password system lets you continue your adventure later, which is a welcome feature as the game becomes more challenging. If you're looking to explore beyond the Game Boy's biggest hits, Spanky's Quest is well worth adding to your collection

Easter Eggs

Stage Select:
Enter the password 0119 on the password/entry screen to unlock the stage select feature and jump to any level in the game.

Sound Test:
Hold the Down directional button on the main game menu, then press Select to open the music and sound effect test room.

Although the game includes a password system and a couple of hidden extras, such as a Sound Test and Stage Select, no other Easter eggs have ever been found in the Game Boy version of Spanky's Quest. Compared to many other games from the same era, it's surprisingly light on hidden secrets or developer jokes.
